Best 2-Person Backpacking Tents

1. Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2

One of the lightest 2-person backpacking tents and our favourite.

If you want a lightweight backpacking tent for two people, the Copper Spur is the one for you. The impressive tent is available is a range of four sizes (1-4 people), meaning you can find the exact one for your needs. These tents weigh from 2lbs 5oz to 5lbs 1 oz. The trail weight of the 2-person tent is just 2lb 12oz.

The 3-season 2-person backpacking tent is crafted from a proprietary double rip-stop nylon fabric that is durable enough to withstand the elements. This fabric is built on a 4-way hub design that allows for high-volume living space while keeping the weight to a minimum. In fact, the tent covers 88″L x 52″W of ground, with plenty of headroom too. The two-tone mesh allows for privacy while allowing for you to gaze at the stars. As such, this is one of the best backpacking tents for couples.

In regards to storage and extra features, the Copper Spur has both. Users will appreciate the vestibules that provide extra storage space (these vestibules are also fitted with storm flaps). Even more storage space is made thanks to a number of media pockets and a ceiling pocket.

2. Black Diamond Eldorado 2-Person Tent

A worthy runner up, the Eldorado is a great all-rounder.

The Diamond Eldorado is a durable 2-person backpacking tent. It’s not the lightest tent, but it weighs a respectable 4lbs 8oz and has a solid build. Just like the Big Agnes above, this is a great all-rounder that has little weaknesses. The tent covers a total area of 30.8 square feet.

The Eldorado has a two-pole frame, yet has comparable strength to heavier tents. Around this two-pole structure you’ll discover a tough ToddTex fabric. You may not have heard of this fabric, but it is made from thousands of micro-hairs that wicks moisture to the outside of the tent. This innovative feature makes up for the tent only having one small roof tent.

Although the tent provides adequate living space, we would prefer if the tent came with a vestibule for extra space to store your gear. However, this can be bought separately if you truly desire. There are also mesh pockets on the tent walls for small essentials, like torches and phones.

Overall, the Eldorado strikes the perfect balance between lightness and strength. The 2-man backpacking tent is versatile, offers comfortable living, and protects you during stormy weather.

The Cloud-Up is our best 4-season backpacking tent for two people. The tent is built using ultralight 20D nylon, strong 7001 aluminum poles, and 3000mm waterproof-rated coating.

The 2-person tent has dimensions of 83(L) x 49(W) x 39(H) inches and weighs 4.7lbs. There are also 24inch long vestibules for extra storage room, which is something other backpacking tents lack.

This is our best 2-person backpacking tent for sleeping under the stars.

Want to sleep under the stars without being bothered by insects? Then the Vision is the tent for you! All you need to do is roll-back the fly and away you go. However, if the weather does take a turn, you can quickly release the fly and stake it down. This mesh build also means this is a great 2-person backpacking tent for humid conditions.

The tent measures 21 x 9 x 7 inches and weighs 5.15lbs, which is average for this type of tent. The canopy is crafted from 20D nylon knit mesh, which is covered by a 40D nylon ripstop fly that has 1500mm waterproof protection.

The tent comes with two large vestibules that provide a main storage area. We also love the mesh pockets on the inside of the tent, which are great for holding essentials you need close by.
